Despite representing Richmond, in Yorkshire, Sunak has lived in London intermittently and when he’s in the capital he resides in his £6.6 million mews mansion in Kensington.

Sunak and his wife, Akshata Murty, also own a first-floor flat in Old Brompton Road, Kensington, which is rumoured to be reserved for friends and family.

After the failed 44-day Liz Truss premiership the Conservative Party has now appointed our richest ever PM, a multi-millionaire former Goldman Sachs banker – appointed to solve a financial crisis.

As the cost-of-living crisis grips the nation and the markets still reeling from Truss-enomics Rishi Sunak, estimated to be worth £730m, aims to avoid a pending fiscal crisis.

Sunak was sworn in by King Charles III on Tuesday October 25 warning the nation that “difficult” decisions needed to be made to rescue a gloomy financial outlook.

But as we check our mortgage payments and baulk at the price of baked beans can Sunak, the son of pharmacists, really understand the plight many of us face this winter?

Earlier this year Sunak was mocked for making an embarrassing contactless card blunder at the Sainsbury’s petrol station in New Cross when he appeared unable to buy a can of drink.

During his failed leadership bid, where he lost to Liz Truss, he was spotted on a building site wearing £450 Prada loafers, opening himself to criticism from Truss’s backers.

And while mulling over the budget in 2020 he was pictured drinking from a £180 coffee mug.

The family also have a home in California and a country pad in the Yorkshire village of Kirby Sigston, valued at £1.5m recently, which now boasts a new £400,000 swimming pool built earlier this year.

The Sunday Times Rich List place Sunak and his wife at number 222 in the rankings of Britain’s 1,000 richest people with a joint £730 million fortune.

Sunak, a former head boy at Winchester College before studying at Oxford, was a banker for Goldman Sachs and as a partner at a series of hedge funds.

He went onto study at Stamford University, in California, but reportedly used to work at a curry house close to his family home in Southampton in his teens.

Sunak enjoys the vast amount of his huge wealth thanks to his wife, Akshata Murty, having a stake in IT giant Infosys, which was founded by N.R. Narayana Murthy, his wife’s billionaire father.

Whilst serving as Chancellor under Boris Johnson, Sunak came under scrutiny for Murty’s tax affairs after it was revealed she benefitted from non-domicile tax status.
