The British Phonographic Industry has announced the date for their annual BRIT Awards for 2023, once again being held in London at The O2 Arena, with the added bonus that next year’s festivities will be held on a weekend.

Considered a “milestone moment” in the 45 year history of the BRIT Awards being televised, the event was usually held on a Tuesday evening, but as new Chair of the Brit Committee Damian Christian explains, the change is to maximise audienceship for the event.

What are the BRIT Awards?

The BRIT Awards are an annual showcase for the UK music industry and alongside its sister events, Classic BRITs and BRITs Icon, celebrates the biggest successes in music and acts as a platform to introduce and promote new talent.

In its televised history, the BRITs have been responsible for some of the biggest pop cultural moments in the UK, be it Little Mix’s impassioned speech in 2021 after being the first girl ground to win Best Group that led to degendering award categories the following year through to the Spice Girls and that Union Jack dress.

Need we mention Pulp’s Jarvis Cockerijacking Michael Jackson’s performance at the Brit Awards in 1996? Or Chumbawumba throwing water on then deputy Prime Minister John Prescott in 1998?

Who is hosting the BRIT Awards 2023?

London comedian/TV presenter Mo Gilligan will once again be hosting the BRIT Awards in 2023, having debuted as its host at this year’s ceremony.

Gilligan took over from Jack Whitehall, its previous host, when Whitehall moved to the United States to pursue a Hollywood career.

Gilligan has been a feature on television sets in the UK through his co-hosting duties on The Big Narstie Show, which led to his own late-night talk show The Lateish with Mo Gilligan and more recently was a judge on ITV’s singing contest The Masked Singer UK and it’s spin-off The Masked Dancer UK.

When are the BRIT Awards 2023 taking place?

The BRIT Awards 2023 will be taking place on Saturday 11 February 2023, being held at The O2 Arena, London.

This will be the 13th time that the BRIT Awards will be held at The O2 Arena, having previously been held at the Hammersmith Odeon and the Royal Albert Hall in its history.

How can I watch the BRIT Awards 2023?

The BRIT Awards will be broadcast once again by ITV and ITV’s forthcoming streaming hub, ITVX, the evening of the event. An official start time will be announced closer to the date of the event.

There will be a delay between the ceremony live and it’s broadcast in the case there are any problems during the event.
