Amber heat alert issued for Greater London as temperatures hit 34°C
It’s going to be hot, hot, hot here in London today - here’s what to expect from the weather.
An amber heat health alert has been issued across Greater London as temperatures hit 34°C.

The Government has warned that the heatwave could put significant pressure on health and social care services in the capital.
Here in London, there may also be travel delays as a result of high temperatures.
According to the Met Office forecast, the capital will reach highs of 34°C today (12th August.)
Today will be the hottest day of the week, but temperatures will remain in the high 20s and low 30s throughout the remainder of the week.
Bright sunshine is forecast every day this week, but don’t be surprised if we get a thunderstorm at some point due to the heat.
The Met Office says to expect: “Variable cloud at first perhaps with an isolated thundery shower. Hazy sunshine develops through the morning, soon turning into prolonged sunshine during the afternoon and feeling very warm with light winds. Maximum temperature 34 °C.”
The Government has also warned that the heat may affect workforces and their ability to deliver services. Adding there could be a rise in deaths, particularly among those ages 65 and over or with health conditions.
Some tricks for beating the heat in London today include drinking plenty of water (especially when travelling on the Underground), carrying a personal fan and sticking to the shade where possible.
