Who needs flowers and dinner out when you have a Tinder date with the mop and bucket?

No, this isn’t an episode of Love Island: according to the results of the new household chores statistics, Londoners are more turned on than anyone else in the UK by their partner pulling their weight around the house. This research, commissioned by HIPPO and based on a survey of 2,000 UK adults, revealed the most attractive household chores according to region across the country.

London: the UK’s choreplay capital

The survey, carried out in October 2025, asked respondents how attractive they found their partner when they were seen to be actively getting stuck in with everyday household tasks and chores around the home. In pretty much every category, London came out on top, recording the highest attraction scores.

London jobs that matter

When it came to the most attractive household chores statistics for Londoners, top spot went to painting and decorating, with 40.3% of respondents voting in favour of home improvement. However, DIY and flatpack building was close, with 40.2%, and fixing something, presumably without causing any extra damage, was third with 38.6%. Interestingly, even some of the more unsavoury tasks, including cleaning the car (37%), mowing the lawn (35.6%), and getting rid of things they no longer need (30.6%), got a decent showing.

More surprisingly, there were also a decent number of people who think that even “going to the tip” and “taking the bins out” are tasks their partner looks hot while doing. A whopping 29.6% of Londoners found the idea of going to the tip attractive, proving it’s all about the effort and sense of civic responsibility rather than the glamour.

...and how they compare to the rest of the UK

Nationally, fixing things that are broken is the most attractive thing a person can do, apparently, with 36.15% respondents more likely to find it attractive. Painting and decorating, and flatpack furniture assembly meant that the top 3 were the same, just in a slightly different order. Women were more likely to be turned on if their partner had been exerting themselves by fixing something, while men were more appreciative of the sight of them painting and decorating.

After learning the more-likely-to-be-attractive chores, let’s head to the least attractive. It might be pretty obvious, but rinsing the recycling bin was the least attractive option nationwide. Attracting chore-based favour is largely a young-person issue. People aged 25-34 were the most likely to find their spouse-at-home sexy, while the older generation, those 55 and over, were the least likely. In other words, people just getting on with their lives in a normal way isn’t nearly as titillating as someone breaking the cycle and going to empty the bins.

What it says about modern relationships

For HIPPO, the research confirms a general shift in lifestyle habits. Gareth Lloyd-Jones, managing director of HIPPO, comments: “It seems getting your hands dirty tackled much more than just the housework; it also tackled the modern-day problem of getting noticed and building fired-up relationships. For those living in a city where space is limited and time is of the essence, sharing the responsibility of completing practical tasks is a big sign of affection as it demonstrates consideration, commitment and working together.”

So, one might say, turning up the heat in London is as simple as helping around the house and getting rid of clutter. Then, you can sit back and watch the romance blossom.
