A number of flights due to arrive at Gatwick Airport on Wednesday (September 27) have been cancelled amid air traffic control issues.

Gatwick announced on Monday that it would “temporarily limit flights” in a decision made with NATS, which runs the air traffic control tower at the airport.

The airport will be limited to between 800 and 865 flights a day, impacting both departures and arrivals, until Sunday October 1.

Passengers are advised to check the status of their flights directly with their airlines.

Stewart Wingate, CEO of London Gatwick, said: “This has been a difficult decision but the action we have taken today means our airlines can fly reliable flight programmes, which gives passengers more certainty that they will not face last minute cancellations.

“We are working closely with NATS to build resilience in the control tower, and this decision means we can prevent as much disruption as possible.
