New Year’s Eve fireworks display London: How to get tickets to ring in 2023, cost and time

The second and final release of tickets to ring in the New Year in the capital watching their fabulous fireworks display are set to go on sale soon. The first batch of tickets sold out in just over five hours, proving how in-demand they are.

More than 100,000 people will gather on the banks of the famous River Thames to say farewell to 2022 and hello to 2023. It will be the first time in over two years that the event will be available to the public, after being televised only due to the Coronaviruspandemic.

Speaking on the New Year’s display, the mayor of London, Sadiq Khan said: I’m incredibly excited that Londoners and visitors to our capital can once again unite on the banks of the Thames to welcome in the new year by watching our world-famous fireworks.

“We are building a better London for everyone and New Year’s Eve is one of the biggest nights of the year for our hospitality industry with our fireworks providing an incredible moment to send a message of love and celebration to the world. This year will be our best ever and with the first batch of tickets selling out in just over five hours, I urge anyone wanting to attend to book as early as possible.”

The fireworks display became an all-ticketed event in 2014 and has remained this way ever since. According to the website officially associated with the Mayor of London, the London Assembly and the Greater London Authority, the New Year’s Eve had to become an all-ticketed affair as larger crowds were affecting the way in which emergency services were able to function in the capital.

“From 2003-2013, before ticketing was introduced, the event was hugely oversubscribed, with up to 500,000 people heading into central London to try and catch the display. This put enormous strain on transport, infrastructure and the ability of emergency services to move around. A large proportion of those who attended were unable to see the display at all, leaving them disappointed and with nowhere to go at midnight,” read details on london.gov.uk.

“The sheer numbers threatened the emergency services ability to respond to a major incident effectively, and left many thousands of people cold, tired and unable to get anywhere near the event. Ticketing the event has helped to ensure the long-term sustainability of the fireworks as a safe, enjoyable event. Since ticketing was introduced in 2014, the numbers who attempted to see the fireworks but were unable to do so have reduced,” added london.gov.uk.

How to get tickets to see the London New Year fireworks display

The last batch of tickets to see one of the biggest fireworks displays on TV will go on sale on Friday, December 2 at noon. You will be able to purchase a ticket via See Tickets, and they will cost £15.

One person will be able to purchase a maximum of four tickets. The event will begin at 8pm, and people begin to leave at around 12:30am.
