Londoners' worst bedtime habits from 'doom scrolling' to falling asleep in work clothes
This data has proven we all need to shake up our bedtime routines... no more falling asleep with your make-up on, ok?
We don’t need to tell you that Londoners don’t have the best sleeping habits.

It comes with the territory of living in the capital city, surely? From late nights to early starts, getting a solid 9 hours of uninterrupted sleep is unheard of.
Now, tired Londoners have revealed their worst bedtime habits, from ‘doom-scrolling’ to falling asleep in their work clothes or make-up.
According to a new survey by Mattress Online, Londoners are putting their sleep hygiene at risk due to a series of poor bedtime habits.
People in London are the most likely in the UK to sleep in the clothes they wore throughout the day, with more than one in four (28%) residents admitting to this compared to the national average of 24%.
The capital is also above the UK figure of 12% for hygiene upkeep in bed, with more than one in ten (13%) admitting to doing things such as clipping their toenails under the covers... (Errr, EW!)
Despite almost half of Londoners (45%) admitting to scrolling on their phone before bed, this is in line with the UK average of 45%, leaving the city only 6th overall.
Here are Londoners’ worst bedtime habits:
- Eating snacks or a meal in bed
- Sleeping in clothes worn throughout the day
- Scrolling on a screen in bed
- Going to bed without showering after the gym
- Sleeping in makeup
- Going to sleep without brushing your teeth
- Only changing bedsheets once a month or less
- Allowing your pet to sleep on the bed
- Doing hygiene upkeep in bed
- Argued and gone to sleep unresolved
- Falling asleep with the TV on
- Used alcohol to fall asleep
- Slept in a bed with unmade sheets
Next time you scran a bit of toast in bed or go to sleep without brushing your teeth, remember you’re in good company - because plenty of other Londoners are doing the same thing.
