London named most scenic city in the world, beating the likes of Paris and Sydney - here’s why

London has been named the most scenic city on the planet to visit during spring in new research. The city is often slammed for its traffic, grey skies and hustle and bustle culture but according to new research by Travelbag, London takes the crown as the most picturesque in the world.

The UK capital has nabbed the top spot for a picture-perfect spring, with the hashtag #SpringinLondon used 100,832 times on Instagram by Brits and tourists who enjoy venturing into the city following a cold winter. London is known for its many parks, including Regents Park and St James’ Park, which blossom in the spring and are buzzing with activity come March time.

Some parks also offer stunning panoramic views of the city, including Primrose Hill and Hampstead Heath. In addition, the city has many iconic spots that shine in all their glory on a beautiful spring day, such as the banks of the River Thames, the Tower of London, St Paul’s Cathedral and the London Eye to name a few.

In the research, London trumped the French capital Paris which came in second place, with 78,981 Instagram posts tagged #SpringinParis. Paris is known to be the city of love and is emphasised by the beautiful winding River Seine.

American city Seattle took third place in the ranking, with 24,220 Instagram posts tagged #SpringinSeattle. Melbourne in Australia sits in fourth place, with 23,549 Instagram posts tagged #SpringinMelbourne.

In fifth place is Chicago in the US, with the windy city boasting the stunning Lake Michigan. Now March is underway, tulips will begin to flourish along the prominent Michigan Avenue while cherry blossoms bloom in Jackson Park, making Chicago a wonderful place to visit in the springtime.
