The biggest names in British fashion will descend on the capital this weekend to celebrate the 40th anniversary of London Fashion week.
The bi-annual event, organised by the British Fashion Council, first launched in 1984.
It happens once in February, when autumn/winter collections are shown and once in September when designers showcase their spring/summer collections.
The new seasons are shown early each year to inform the high-street fashion market’s designs and upcoming trends.
Fashion week in the 1990s was groundbreaking. High fashion models became household names and earned themselves worldwide acclaim.
The decade saw the rise of the Big Five, made up of supermodels Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington, Linda Evangelista, Cindy Crawford, and Claudia Schiffer, growing to the Big Six with the addition of Kate Moss.
As fashionistas gather in the capital this weekend, we’ve taken a trip down memory lane at pictures of London Fashion Week in the 1990s.

Beginning her career at the age of 8, Campbell was one of six models of her generation declared supermodels by the fashion industry.
