The Pipe Major in Dagenham is back open

The Pipe Major reopened on 21st June following £390k transformation

The Pipe Major in Dagenham has officially reopened its doors following a refurbishment by Marston’s - welcoming back the community with a fresh new look and upgraded features, designed for both locals and families.

The community heroes, chosen to pull the first pint to mark the pub’s opening, were Adrian Sinclair, a long-serving scout leader, as well as Esther Killington, a member of the Dagenham Girl Pipers - the world’s first all-female pipe band, founded in 1930. They will also be joined by fellow Dagenham Girl Pipers Christine Smith, Carol Barnes, Merilyn Dorrington, and Donna Dorrington, whose continued support for the group keeps its legacy alive.

The venue now boasts two distinct areas: a lively, sport-loving locals’ bar and a cosy, family-focused lounge. A central partition divides the space, offering the best of both worlds for guests, whether it’s a quiet pint or quality time with loved ones.

Sports fans are already making the most of the 4k big screens now showing TNT and Sky Sports throughout the pub. Meanwhile, the pub’s food and drinks menu remain firmly in place, and visitors can still feast on the limited time ‘big daddy burger’ until 30th June, featuring three prime beef burgers, American-style cheesy slice, hash brown, two buttermilk chicken goujons, crispy bacon, fried free-range egg, three onion rings, with shredded iceberg lettuce in a seeded bun. Served with skin-on fries and a dip pot of burger sauce.

Pub General Manager, Hayden Leavers, said: "We’re absolutely thrilled to welcome guests back through the doors. The response so far has been amazing, people love the new look, and we’ve already seen the space in full swing with quiz nights, sport screenings, and plenty of friendly faces back at the bar.”

Family-friendly entertainment is already underway with weekend fun days, the return of Sunday quizzes, and ongoing support for local causes.
