The Angelic, in Liverpool Road, closed at the start of August to undergo a huge six-figure refurbishment.

The transformation comes as the gastropub celebrates its 200th year of trading in the city.

The refurb saw many of the pub’s facilities upgraded and new jobs created both in the front and back of house.

The pub opened in 1824 as the George IV before being renamed The Angelic, after the film, The Angelic Conversation, which was directed by Derek Jarman who lived opposite the pub during the 1960s.

Stonegate Pub Group has made renovations with careful consideration of the building’s rich history, providing a refresh for the pub while paying homage to the venue’s historical features.

The kitchen has been expanded and will serve a wide range of fresh British food. Menu highlights include a Goat’s Cheese Lasagne and homemade Chicken & Leek Pie.

Externally, the heated outdoor area has also been revamped with contemporary décor adding to the luxurious feel that is etched within the pub’s atmosphere.

Situated in the heart of Islington, the gastropub boasts huge windows and high ceilings in the Sistine Chapel area on the first floor, with the pub also hosting weekly live music alongside Wednesday quiz night and Tuesday comedy night.

Upstairs, the dining room is available for hire, with the luxurious space being an ideal spot for weddings, baby showers, corporate events and everything in between.

“Rest assured, we have been very careful to renovate while staying true to the building’s natural and historical charm, being sure to improve while honouring all our original features.

“As the site enters its 200th year of trading, we are more confident than ever in our top-class cocktails and fine wine. With our new and improved facilities allowing for a superior guest experience, we can’t wait to welcome people back to try one of our fantastic seasonal dishes.”
