Restaurant review: Fitz’s Brasserie at Kimpton Fitzroy London: 'An opulent dining experience'

Nestled within the historic Grade II-listed hotel in Bloomsbury, the restaurant has undergone a recent refurbishment and sits alongside a cosy parlour, and the existing glamorous Fitz’s Bar.
The Kimpton Fitzroy first opened in 1900 as the Hotel Russell and was designed by Charles Fitzroy Doll, the architect behind the dining room on the RMS Titanic.

Fitz’s Bar
Before our meal my friend and I enjoyed a pre-dinner cocktail at Fitz’s Bar, where you’ll find velvet sofas, Victorian curiosities, and a shimmering Jazz Age mirror ball.
We both chose cocktails from the quirky Theory of Colour menu, which comes in the form of a book showing 14 different versions of a 17th-century still life flower painting by the artist Nicolaes van Verendeal.

Next you take a UV pen and shine it on your choice to reveal a hidden message that describes what your painting and drink say about you. A novel cocktail experience.
Fitz’s Brasserie
We then made our way through for dinner at Fitz’s Brasserie, which boasts high ceilings, beautiful pillars and an intimate dining area.
We received a warm welcome from our waiter, who was accommodating, friendly and attentive throughout our entire meal.

The charcuterie board featured focaccia bread, pickles, air-dried ham, pork and fennel salami and smoked beef bresaola.
The tiger prawns were sumptuous and the largest I had ever seen and were just delicious with the chilli and wild garlic butter. I was thrilled to have some sourdough bread to dip into the incredibly moreish sauce.

For my main course I ordered the daintiest Devonshire chicken, leek and tarragon pie, while my friend ordered the catch of the day which was a giant dover sole.

My chicken pie was the perfect portion size and was hearty and comforting. The pastry was baked to perfection.
While we would have been perfectly satisfied with a two course meal we couldn’t resist ordering dessert.
We opted for the “lighter options” of the strawberry baked alaska and a pineapple and coconut creation.

Hide AdWe truly loved our dining experience at Fitz’s Brasserie, from the delicious dinner, to the opulent setting, to the incredibly accommodating staff.
As it was a Tuesday evening, the restaurant was quite quiet but as more tourists visit the capital over the summer season I am sure it will be buzzing every night.
The only sad part of the evening was that I couldn’t stay the night! Next time!
