Though rich in heritage, Camden Town is actually relatively young by London standards.
Development was started by Charles Pratt, Earl of Camden, in 1791. But it was the opening up of the Regent’s Canal to traffic in 1820 that let it grow from a sprinkling of buildings by the roadside.
The famous markets are a mid-20th century creation, and since their emergence the area has become one of the city’s greatest tourist attractions.
The area was bustling when Britpop emerged in the mid-1990s, promoting the area to a new, young audience.
Which brings us to pubs. Camden is packed with bars and venues - there is always something going on. Here we have picked out just nine of the great pubs in the area, waiting to be explored.

4. The Ice Wharf
The Ice Wharf, formerly known as Lloyds No 1, first opened its doors in 2002 under the stewardship of JD Wetherspoon. The Ice Wharf derives its name from the adjacent ice wharf, dates back to 1837.
