13 Wetherspoons pubs up for sale and under offer - in pictures

JD Wetherspoonpub has become a much-loved staple of the UK’s high streets, with affordable food and drinks.

The pubs also often occupy landmark buildings, such as former cinemas and factories. They serve drinks and below market prices and a range of special offerson food. This month the chain announced the launch of a new crunchy southern-fried chicken strip burger, served on a bed of lettuce and mayo, in a lightly toasted brioche bun.

‘Spoons’ has more than 800 pubs in the UK. According to its financial reports, like-for-like sales rose by 18% in the final quarter of 2022 across JD Wetherspoon pubs, but the figure was still 2% below 2019 levels.

The chain, owned by the businessman and Brexit-championing Tim Martin, last year began putting pubs on the market. Currently 19 pubs are up for sale and 20 already closed this year.

This month one landmark pub in central London, the former Knights Templar, will reopen, having been taken over by the Midlands-based Berkeley Inns. The former Union Bank building in Chancery Lane will become The Last Judgment, and will reopen on May 15.
