Father-son selfies and cloudy hiking shots were amongst the winners at this year’s British Mobile Photography Awards.
The competition, run in partnership with Samsung, aims to show the best of British photographic talent, with a collection of pictures taken around the UK.
This year 120 entries were shortlisted, including six winners. The categories included portrait, landscape, night scenes, food and drink, pets and zoom in.
Amongst the winning photographs were two taken in London including the best night scene entry which was captured outside Heron Tower near Liverpool Street. The winner of the zoom in category was taken on a glass floor in Kew Gardens.
BPA Awards Director & Photographer, Hugo Donnithorne-Tait said: "As photography continues to develop as a medium, it is clear that the way people take and enjoy photos is changing too. More and more photographs today are being captured only because people have a top camera in their pocket when they need it. This means so many more of life’s moments are being documented."
"We are so proud to be able to launch this Mobile Photography Awards. Samsung has a fantastic history of innovation and pioneering new imaging technologies, so who better to co-host this new kind of photography competition? Being able to award fantastic Galaxy S24 Ultras to the winners of the competition - and host Mobile workshops means we can continue to transform people’s photography and keep developing our craft alongside this amazing new technology."
Here are the six winning entries. You can view all 120 shortlisted photographs on the British Photography Awards website.
1. 'Two Heads One Heart'-Winner of Best Portrait
Photographer: "While I slept, my little boy came to lie beside me and slept off. He had awakened me when he came in, and typically I couldn't get back to my nap. But my eyes were still heavy, and my phone was near me. I had an idea. I took the shot in the position we slept off in. I made me think how he came from me, and still was, as it looks in the image, very much attached to me and will always have my heart. This remains one of my all-time favourite images." | Dotun
2. 'Hiking in the Clouds'- Winner of best landscape
Photographer: "One of Scotland's most remote mountains, An Teallach! A moment of unbelievable views as the clouds hugged the ridge before blowing over completely, opening up 360 degree views of the Scottish Highlands!" | Hayden
3. 'The Evening Rush'- Winner of Night Scenes
Photographer: "A couple of months ago, I came up with an idea that involved using a smartphone to take long exposures at night in the City of London. Here is a photo that was taken outside Heron Tower near Liverpool Street Station and overall, this was one of the best images from my project. For this shot, I used my Sony Xperia 1 Mark 5 mounted on a K&F Concept Tripod." | Anon
4. 'Flesh lemon juice'- Winner of Food and Drink
Photographer: "Squeezing sunshine into a glass at garden where fresh lemon juice becomes liquid gold. With a hand juicer and a splash of determination, each drop bursts with vibrant flavor and vitality. Captured with natural light, the essence of citrus radiates in every frame. As we raise our glasses, let this tangy elixir awaken the senses and brighten the day ahead." | Margaret Jaszowska
