Families will discover on Tuesday (April 16) which primary school has offered their child a place for September 2024.

They will be notified by their council by letter or email, or via an online portal. The exact timings vary by council.

First-choice primary school

In 2023, 92.5% of families nationally received an offer from their first choice of primary school and 98.3% received an offer from one of their top three choices.

Parents or carers need to formally accept the offer by a given deadline, set by the council.

Primary school place appeals

Parents can appeal to the council if they did not get their first choice place. If they appeal they should accept the second choice to ensure a back-up. This does not affect the appeal outcome.
