Swoperz create unique book for second UK National Read-Aloud Challenge
The women behind unique clothes-swapping platform Swoperz, where kids are empowered to make their own fashion choices, have created a unique Swoperz book for the second annual UK National Read-Aloud Challenge.
First held in 2023, this free nationwide initiative encourages children aged five to 15 to read aloud during their summer break, using the award-winning Fonetti app.
The aim is to build children’s confidence when reading aloud, develop their speech and comprehension skills, and enhance their vocabulary.
“We are thrilled to have contributed a story for the UK National Read-Aloud Challenge, the first of four Swoperz books” said Charlene Hurlock and Vicky Fuller, co-founders of Swoperz.

“Our story explores how Leigh-on-Sea best friends Sophia and Pretti’s love of swapping clothes - and a school lesson about landfill - leads them to put on a ‘Swoperz’ fashion show.”
Like Fonetti and the UK National Read-Aloud Challenge, Swoperz aims to empower children to discover their own style and make sustainable fashion choices, with minimal adult supervision.
The age-verified platform enables kids aged six to 16 to swap pre-loved clothes with other children, earning tokens with each swap, while grown-ups manage the admin.
Contributing to the UK National Read-Aloud Challenge, which runs until the end of August, was a no-brainer as far as Charlene and Vicky were concerned.
“Reading is a brilliant way to learn about new ideas, so what better way to get across Swoperz’ message about empowerment and the benefits of sustainable fashion to the next generation of consumers!”
“Through initiatives like the UK National Read-Aloud Challenge, we can inspire a love of reading while introducing concepts like sustainability and personal responsibility,” adds Kim Antoniou, founder and CEO of Auris Tech, the creators of Fonetti.
“Swoperz stories show kids the fun and impact of making eco-friendly choices and expressing individuality.”
