Purley care home celebrates major milestone with local community

A care home in Purley has celebrated its 25th birthday with a special event that brought together residents, their families, and the local community.

Residents at Care UK’s Amberley Lodge, on Downlands Road, which was recently rated "Outstanding" by the Care Quality Commission, pulled out all the stops for a special birthday bash, 25 years after it welcomed the very first residents.

Alongside their family and friends from the local community, residents were joined by Civic Mayor of Croydon, Councillor Kola Agboola, representative Deputy Lieutenant and Councillor Samir Dwesar, who joined in the celebrations.

The Civic Mayor delivered a speech, highlighting the impact the home has had on the community in the past 25 years.

Attendees enjoyed a day of festivities and had the opportunity to tap their feet and sing along to live music by local performer, Daniel Mack Shand while sipping on cocktails to mark the occasion.

The home's talented catering team also provided a host of delicious refreshments which everyone enjoyed between dancing and socialising.

Alongside the home’s 25-year milestone, the team at Amberley Lodge also celebrated their recent achievement of being awarded the highest rating from The Care Quality Commission (CQC), a national care watchdog, which awarded the home an ‘outstanding’ rating in June.

The care home has been rated 'outstanding’ in three areas, including being caring, responsive and well led.

The report highlighted that the team “were exceptionally kind and caring and demonstrated a real empathy and understanding of people with dementia”. Inspectors noted that the home had a strong, visible person-centred culture where residents were supported to maintain relationships and social contacts. Organisation of social activities showed a creative approach that met resident's needs and helped them lead a full life. Relatives and professionals agreed the service was excellent at providing person-centred care, and is outstandingly well-led by the home manager and management team.

Azalea Moses, home manager at Amberley Lodge, said: “It was heartwarming to see residents, their families, and the local community come together to celebrate 25 years of Amberley Lodge and our fantastic rating by the CQC.

“The team put in a lot of effort to make the day special and it certainly paid off with everyone having a wonderful time. This celebration offered a fantastic opportunity for residents to spend quality time with loved ones while meeting new people and reflecting on their favourite things which make Amberley Lodge their home.

“We are also immensely grateful to Councillor Kola Agboola for joining us for this memorable occasion – the residents certainly enjoyed having a VIP in attendance.

“The past 25 years have been filled with fantastic moments for everyone at Amberley Lodge, both for residents and team members, and as our recent CQC report and result shows, we have no plans to slow down as we look ahead to creating more memorable experiences for residents in the next 25 years.

“I’d like to extend a huge thank you to our dedicated staff for making Amberley Lodge a wonderful place to call home – this was certainly a birthday party to remember!”
