Newham teen lands professional stage debut at National Theatre
A rising star is stepping into the national spotlight this autumn. Local performer Darcy Tosun has landed his professional stage debut at none other than the National Theatre, one of the UK’s most prestigious stages.
Darcy, who has grown up performing in community shows and local advertisements in Newham, has been cast as ‘Young Thomas’ in the highly anticipated new production The Land of the Living, directed by Stephen Daldry — the acclaimed director behind Billy Elliot, The Crown, and The Hours. The play is written by David Lan, and stars the celebrated Juliet Stevenson, known for her powerful performance in The Doctor.
Set to run from 9 September to 1 November, the production explores themes of memory, survival, and identity in post-conflict Britain. The show is already generating significant buzz, with press night scheduled for 18 September.
For Darcy, the casting marks a major breakthrough. “This is honestly a dream come true,” he said. “I’ve grown up performing in Newham, and now I’m stepping onto one of the biggest stages in the country. I still can’t believe it’s real — this moment is beyond anything I imagined.”

The young actor’s story is a testament to local talent and the importance of community arts as a foundation for future stars. With a major role in one of the most talked-about productions of the season, Darcy Tosun is a name to watch.
Darcy is no stranger to the screen, having already built an impressive portfolio across TV, film, and online platforms. He has been cast in a number of short films, digital campaigns, and television projects, steadily gaining recognition for his natural charisma, emotional depth, and professionalism beyond his years. From public service announcements to youth-focused dramas, Darcy has shown remarkable range and versatility.
Despite his on-screen success, The Land of the Living marks Darcy's professional theatre debut — a major milestone that opens a new chapter in his already growing career.
His agent, Mark Jermin, shared their excitement about the news online too.

As Darcy prepares to bring the role of ‘Young Thomas’ to life, audiences can look forward to witnessing a performer at the beginning of what promises to be an extraordinary journey.
