Mayor opens Harrow care home’s upgraded café
A care home in Harrow has hosted a grand launch for its refurbished café – with the help of some special guests.
Care UK’s Buchanan Court, on Sudbury Hill, celebrated the opening of its updated eatery, with the Mayor of Harrow Councillor Anjana Patel cutting the ribbon alongside team members and residents.
Guests enjoyed refreshments prepared by Head Chef Andrei Zaharia while listening to music from local violinist Maria Velez. Healthcare professionals also attended to celebrate with the care home and share their knowledge with guests and residents.
Visitors had the opportunity to tour the home and explore its offering, which includes a cinema and hair and beauty salon, to find out exactly what life is like at Buchanan Court.
Commenting on the afternoon, the Mayor of Harrow said: “It was an honour to open the refurbished entrance & café at Buchanan Court care home and wonderful to meet residents, families & the caring staff who embody patience, compassion & humanity every day. As Mayor, my theme is “Kindness, Caring & Respect” — values that are truly alive at Buchanan Court.”
The café is designed to be a social hub for the local community to meet and support one another. Each month, the care home will host dementia café events where advice is shared among carers, families and those living with the syndrome.
A friendship café will also be running monthly to bring like-minded people together through a shared love of activities including arts and crafts, games and talks.
Laurentiu Iordachescu, Home Manager at Buchanan Court, said: “We were delighted to mark the official opening of our new café by celebrating with our neighbours, relatives and special guests.
“Having a community space is so important to bring local people together. Our monthly dementia café events provide the opportunity for those around the residents to learn and understand how to support them, while also creating a safe space for open communication – now in a refreshed and modern environment.
“On behalf of the team and residents here at Buchanan Court, we want to thank everyone who joined us to celebrate the grand opening.”
Buchanan Court provides full-time residential, dementia and nursing care, as well as short-term respite care. Designed to enable its residents to live enjoyable and fulfilling lives, the care home has its very own pub and café, and there is plenty of space – both indoors and out – for relaxation and recreation.
