Langley Park Primary School praised by Ofsted for “friendly” and “focused learning environment”

Langley Park Primary School in Beckenham has been applauded by Ofsted for encouraging “pupils’ success in all areas of school life.”

The school is part of Impact Multi Academy Trust alongside other local primary and secondary schools and can be found next to Langley Park School for Girls, and Langley Park School for Boys. With the school having opened in 2016, this is the first time Ofsted has visited the school with pupils in every year group.

During the inspection, Ofsted commended the school for its “high expectations” and values-driven teaching which encourages “pupils to treat others with kindness and respect.”

Inspectors also highlighted the school’s “broad and ambitious curriculum” and its teachers’ “secure subject knowledge” which ensures pupils “develop knowledge confidently and produce work of high quality.”

The school also received strong praise for its inclusive vision, with the report highlighting how students are supported by a “range of approaches to help pupils learn the curriculum successfully and to meet their personal targets.”

Other highlights from the report include:

  • “Teachers present information clearly”, particularly in mathematics, and “staff have secure subject knowledge for teaching phonics.”
  • “Reading is prioritised”, and “pupils read a range of well-chosen stories.” “Teachers help pupils to understand important meanings and new vocabulary.”
  • “Pupils know that it is important to treat people with different backgrounds and beliefs with respect.”
  • The needs of pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) are identified “swiftly and effectively.”
  • “The school helps pupils to understand how to stay safe and healthy, including online.”
  • “Pupils take up responsibility widely” and “the school provides extensive high-quality enrichment activities” including taekwondo, lacrosse, chess and drama.
  • “Many pupils receive instrumental lessons” and “learn about wildlife in regular outdoor learning sessions.”
  • “Educational visits broaden pupils’ experiences.”
  • “Children learn to follow clear routines…this helps to make the school a settled and focused learning environment.”
  • “Leaders, including governors and trustees, work together effectively to strengthen the school’s work. Leaders provide strong support for staff’s well-being.”
