Ilford Caribbean food stall secures 'a win for the entire community' after receiving £5k grant

An Ilford-based Caribbean food stall has been awarded £5,000 worth of funding thanks to Sage, Official Insights partner of cricket’s The Hundred.

This award comes as a result of Twerk N Jerk owner Tyron Salih’s successful entry into the Sage Small Business XI competition, which was launched by cricket legend Stuart Broad earlier this summer.

With this win, Twerk N Jerk becomes one of ten businesses to join the Sage Small Business XI, securing a share of £50,000 in grants and other experiences linked with The Hundred.

Entering the Sage Small Business XI competition, Tyron wanted to help his business gain recognition for its dedication to delivering exceptional Caribbean cuisine. The competition also provides an opportunity to help the business expand and improve its services, allowing it to reach more people and have a greater impact in the local community.

Sage’s £5,000 grant will be used to upgrade kitchen equipment, allowing Tyron to increase efficiency and productivity whilst maintaining the high quality of their food. He also plans to invest in new marketing initiatives to expand their reach, ensuring the continued growth and success the business.

Tyron said: “Winning this competition means validation of our efforts and commitment to excellence. The grant provides us with the resources and visibility needed to grow our business and enhance our offerings.

"This recognition is not just a win for us but for our entire community, as it highlights the value of cultural diversity and sustainable practices in the food industry.”
