The Scouts have joined forces with Dacia to make adventure affordable and accessible to young people throughout the UK. and one group to benefit is the Golden Hind Explorers.

Over three days, Golden Hind’s team of Explorers from South East London will independently canoe along the River Severn to complete their DofE Silver Expedition. They will carry their food, equipment and gear in their canoes, and camp along the way.

This experience will develop self confidence, self reliance, independence, and create lifelong memories. They will have a great sense of achievement when they complete their expedition as a team. 85% of young people in Scouts take part in activities they have never tried before.

"They will spend three days paddling independently, with their gear, food and camping equipment on board. Through this experience they will make lifelong memories and friends, and develop a great set of skills.”

They will further develop and refine their open canoe paddling skills, navigation skills and lightweight campcraft and cooking skills. They will also develop soft skills, such as teamwork, problem solving and decision making. Through Scouts, 92% of young people say they learn skills for life.

To be ready for this adventure, they have completed first response training, open canoe training, expedition skills training, and they will demonstrate to our county instructors that they have the required skills to undertake the expedition safely.
