DLD students shine in national senior physics challenge

DLD College London, the award-winning independent school in the heart of London, is celebrating the success of nine of its students in the prestigious British Physics Olympiad BPhO Senior Physics Challenge.

A national competition, the British Physics Olympiad is designed to test students’ problem-solving abilities in a series of rigorous and thought-provoking physics challenges, catered to real-world scenarios. Entrants are subjected to a one-hour exam, featuring a myriad of scientific scenarios for students to solve.

Not only does the British Physics Olympiad test the problem-solving abilities of its entrants, it prepares prospective physics professionals for life beyond college in further education and gives them the skills to excel in university interviews. It also draws on the enthusiasm for academic engagement beyond the classroom, prompting DLD students to grasp the opportunity to utilise their learnings and apply them to relatable, real-world scenarios.

The nine students, Shawna, Shina, Seti, Rita, Stefan, Cassio, Tommy, Gordon, and Ammar, supported by their physics teacher, Dr. Sam Siddiqui, put their skills to the test over 60 minutes of mind-crunching tasks. Showcasing a clear abundance of aptitude, knowledge and initiative to overcome each scientific problem, the students’ efforts resulted in an impressive haul of awards, certificates and commendations to add to DLD’s already-revered reputation of high performance in these arenas.

Louise Affleck, Head of Physics, commented: “The BPhO is a key component in preparation for further physics education and we couldn’t be any prouder of our students. Very well done to everyone who took part – this success is a testament to the college’s strong academic culture and dedication of our staff and student body.”

A school of diverse thinking and influences, housed in a futuristic building with cutting-edge facilities opposite the Houses of Parliament, London, is DLD’s classroom. Students aged 13 to 19 are offered the opportunity to study a wide range of GCSEs, A-Levels, BTEC courses and International Foundation Programmes (IFP). It also offers an Academic Preparation Programme (APC).

In addition to several significant national award wins, DLD College London is also proud to be named by Tatler magazine, Good Schools Guide and Talk Education as one of the top schools in the UK. DLD College London provides a 'gold standard' of educational quality. It is a school where students are respected, supported and honoured as individuals.

Where they are immersed in the best possible environment to grow as successful and independent learners; where their vision can be made a reality, and where as happy and healthy people they feel free to make a contribution to the world around them, both now and into the future. The school's beating heart is its award-winning wellbeing centre.
