Sweethearts Adam and Jodie Davies cancelled their £30,000 dream white wedding to buy their first home together.

The pair were due to tie the knot in a glamorous ceremony at a luxury wedding venue in September 2024 but instead used the £10,000 they had saved towards it as part of a deposit to purchase their three-bedroom dream home at Bellway’s Alkerden Heights development, in Ebbsfleet Garden City, Kent.

Operations manager Jodie, 32, was given a ‘guard of honour’ by Bellway staff when she left her new £449,000home at Alkerden Heights to get married to Adam in a less expensive occasion at the local register office on Tuesday 4 June.

Jodie said: “I had no idea they were going to do that for me. It was organised by the sales advisor Rachel who knew that we had cancelled our big wedding day so we could buy the house.

“I stepped out of our front door to walk to the car, which was waiting to take me to meet Adam at the register office when there was Rachel and some of the site team giving me a ‘guard of honour’. It was a total surprise and a lovely touch.

“Like every bride, I wanted the full white wedding experience but after chatting to Adam about it we both agreed that it made much more sense to buy our first home together instead. So instead of a £30,000 wedding, we got married for £7,000 with a in a local pub.

“We lost a £3,000 deposit on the wedding venue but we wanted our dream home. It was wonderful and we don’t regret our decision for one moment.”

The couple’s original moving-in date was Sunday 16 June but Adam and Jodie asked Bellway Kent if they could bring it forward so they could be in their new home before they got married.

Rachel said: “Jodie and Adam are a lovely couple and when I first met them they told me how they cancelled their white wedding so they could buy a house with us. That shows incredible commitment and we really wanted to pull out all the stops to help them get into their new home before their new wedding day and we handed the keys to them on 13 May.

“Adam told me when Jodie was due to leave their house so I arranged for a few of us on the site to be outside to raise our arms to give her our own ‘guard of honour’. It was great fun and it was lovely to see how much Jodie enjoyed it.”

Jodie and Adam started dating in November 2022 after being in contact over a transaction between the companies they worked for.

Adam, a 34-year-old finance manager, said: “During one conversation Jodie got angry and said: ‘You are not very good at your job’ and slammed the phone down on me. The next day she arrived at my office with two doughnuts in a box as her way of saying sorry.

“We had never met before and it was love at first sight and I sent her a cheeky message saying ‘nice doughnuts’. After that I asked her out and we got on really well and the rest is history. We got engaged after I proposed on a beach in Mauritius and we set a date for the wedding in September 2024.

“We started saving like mad and by the end of 2023 we had saved £10,000. But we had a chat and decided that we should cancel the wedding and do it cheaper and buy our own house instead. On the day we got married, instead of having a wedding cake we got each guest a doughnut as a reminder of how we first met.

“We love our new home and it’s great to have this investment in our future and to not be renting any more. Life is wonderful and we are looking to start a family soon. Instead of still saving for an expensive wedding we are already married and living in our dream home. It’s the best decision we ever made.”

Bellway Kent is building 182 new homes at Alkerden Heights. There’s currently a selection of one and two-bedroom apartments and three and four-bedroom houses available to reserve.
