Chingford care home invites local community for Harvest Festival fun
A care home in Chingford has invited the local community to celebrate Harvest Festival.
Residents at Care UK’s Ivy Grove, on Hatch Lane, were joined by members of the local community for an a-maize-ing afternoon as they celebrated the annual festival.
Everyone enjoyed an afternoon learning about the origins of the festival, what it means for today’s society, and why this long-standing tradition should not be forgotten. In true Harvest season style, the home hosted a scarecrow hunt in the home’s garden for everyone to enjoy, before indulging in hot chocolate and cake in the home’s bistro.
Each year, Harvest Festival celebrates the time when crops have been gathered from fields and people can reflect and show gratitude for the food that they have. It dates back to when people relied on local crops for food and famers would give thanks for a good harvest.

Commenting on the afternoon’s celebrations, resident Vera Grover’s daughter Juliet Grover, said: "This was a great day, me and mum had so much fun looking for the scarecrows in the garden. I’m so glad that I came and that the weather held out for it.”
Jacob Mante, General Manager at Ivy Grove, said: “It was fantastic to welcome the local Chingfor community to Ivy Grove to celebrate the annual Harvest Festival tradition and explore its importance today.
“Harvest Festival is a day in the calendar where we can reflect and show gratitude for the food that we have, while serving as an opportunity to connect with others, regardless of age or background, and celebrate the cultural diversity which helps make London a great place to call home.
“Everyone had an a-maize-ing day finding the scarecrows and learning about the origins of the festival. We’re already looking forward to our next event with the local community as we race towards Christmas!”
