Seventy years of marriage is a remarkable achievement, and for Roger and Audrey Adcock, it's been a journey filled with laughter, love, and cherished memories.

“Seventy years, and we still laugh every day,” Roger said, smiling as he reflected on his platinum wedding anniversary with his beloved wife, Audrey.

On 19th February 2025, Purley Gardens Care Home became a place of joy and love as residents, staff, and family gathered to honour Roger and Audrey’s incredible 70 years of marriage.

The special day was marked with congratulations from King Charles III and Queen Camilla, a private family lunch, and a delightful afternoon tea shared with fellow residents.

"We never imagined we’d reach this milestone, but here we are, still holding hands and making memories," added Roger, 98. "Our journey together has been filled with love, laughter, and countless unforgettable moments."

Roger and Audrey’s love story began in the summer of 1954 in Southend-on-Sea when a blind date led to love at first sight.

Just three weeks later, they were engaged, and in February 1955, they married at St Andrew’s Church in Winchester.

Throughout their marriage Roger, from Southampton, dedicated his life to education, shaping young minds, while Audrey, from Winchester, was a radiographer.

Together, they raised two children, Helen and Kate and moved across the country to Devon 24 years ago.

In retirement, the couple enjoyed a peaceful life in Devon before settling at Purley Gardens Care Home, located in Surrey and owned by Avery Healthcare, in 2024 to be closer to family.

When asked about the secret to a long and happy marriage, Audrey simply said, “Marry the right man! Don’t argue and always embrace new interests.” Roger added, “Love, patience, and shared experiences.”
