Bromley school hosts heartwarming tea party for community

Cudham Church of England Primary School, located on Jail Lane, recently hosted a delightful Tea Party with the Deputy Mayor of Bromley.

The event, which was organised by Year 6 pupils in partnership with St Mary’s Church, Downe, was a heartwarming gathering that celebrated community spirit and local history.

The school, which is part of the successful Aquinas CE Education Trust, hosted over 20 local parishioners, including the Deputy Mayor and local councillor, Jonathan Andrews. Guests were treated to a selection of teas and cakes, creating a perfect setting for socialising, and sharing stories.

Entertainment was provided by the school’s talented Glee Club, which performed a selection of rousing songs that delighted the audience. The Year 6 students, Head of School, and several staff members and parents engaged in lively conversations with the parishioners.

Many attendees shared incredible stories about the history of the school, including memories of when the school children were taught at a site now known as ‘The Jail Pub’ due to concerns about bombing during World War II. Parishioners also recounted their experiences of being evacuated to Cornwall during the war and the warm hospitality they received from their host families.

Deputy Mayor Jonathan Andrews, along with other visitors, enjoyed a comprehensive tour of the school’s impressive facilities, which include an extensive field, a large trim trail and playground equipment, two halls, and the on-site Rainbows Nursery. The Deputy Mayor expressed his admiration for the nurturing and welcoming atmosphere of the school, the outstanding behaviour of the pupils, and their confidence and articulate nature.

Lisa Askew, Head of School at Cudham CE Primary School, said: “The tea party we hosted with the Deputy Mayor, our local councillor, and parishioners was an excellent opportunity for our pupils to learn more of the history of our school and hear stories from members of our community. At Cudham, we provide an enriching environment where pupils have new experiences that help them flourish and realise their potential.”
