A Level success at Walthamstow Academy

Sixth Formers at Walthamstow Academy are celebrating today after receiving their A Level results and securing places at some of the UK’s most prestigious universities, including one student who is off to the University of Oxford.

Impressively, across the Year 13 cohort, over a quarter (26%) of A Level entries were awarded A*-A grades and half were awarded A*-B grades. Over a third of students who applied to university have secured places at top Russell Group institutions.

Among those students marking their accomplishments today are:

  • Maira, who achieved an A* in Maths and two As in Physics and Chemistry and is going to the University of Oxford to study Material Science;
  • Max Guzman, who achieved an A* in Maths and two As in Computing and Physics, and is going to the University of Bristol to study Mechanical Engineering;
  • Saghena Thavarajah, who achieved anA* in Maths and two As in Biology and Chemistry and is going to Imperial College London to study Medicine;
  • Aphra Villiers, who achieved an A* in Art and two As in Biology and Chemistry and is going to the University of Edinburgh to study Biology;
  • Maryam Javid, who achieved an A* in Maths, an A in Economics and a B in Computing and is going to do a Degree Apprenticeship in Data Analysis at Amazon;
  • Araathanaa Jeyabaskaran, who achieved three As in Biology, Chemistry and Maths and is going to King’s College London to study Chemistry;
  • Safaan Mohamed Ferous, whoachieved three As in Economics, Geography and English and is going to the University of Nottingham to study Law.

Maira said: “I’d like to thank Walthamstow Academy for providing me with so much help academically and beyond this. My subject teachers have been absolutely essential to my success and without them I would not be here today.”

Saghena said: “I am so grateful for the wonderful time I’ve had at Walthamstow Academy and feel blessed to have had such great mentors for the entire 7 years I have spent here. I will never regret any moment of this. Studying at Walthamstow Academy has been the best decision ever and I am so proud to be going off to Imperial to study Medicine. The dream of my life!”

Max said: “I am very grateful for the amazing teachers that helped me achieve my goals.”
