From Raw Beginnings
Like many new dog owners, the brothers began questioning what was actually in their dogs’ food. “We were shocked at the ingredients list,” says Christopher. “It didn’t feel right that something labelled ‘complete and balanced’ was mostly filler, carbohydrates, and very little nutrition cooked at extreme temperatures, and then sprayed with synthetic vitamins to make up for what was lost.”
They started sourcing meat directly from Smithfield Market, experimenting with home-made raw meals, and quickly saw the impact on their dogs’ health, shinier coats, firmer stools, and better energy levels. “Once we saw the difference, we couldn’t go back,” says Patrick.
Word spread quickly. Friends asked for tubs. Friends of friends followed. In no time, the brothers had outgrown the kitchen and moved production to a larger facility. Now they proudly feed dogs from every county in the UK!
British Sourcing and Solid Principles
At the heart of the brand is a commitment to simplicity, transparency, and ethics. Rude Dog Food only uses meat from British farms, a decision driven by both quality and principle.
“We want to support British farmers,” says Christopher. “The welfare standards here are higher than most, and it means we know exactly where our ingredients come from. There’s no need to import or cut corners.”
Their raw dog food meals are made with just a handful of ingredients: meat, organ, bone, and a small percentage of fruits and vegetables for fibre and antioxidants. Every ingredient is listed with its percentage on the label, and every batch is frozen to lock in freshness and nutrition.
It’s a back-to-basics approach, but one that resonated with modern dog owners looking for more transparency and better health outcomes for their animals.
Giving Back to Service Dogs
Perhaps most impressively, Rude Dog Food now gives a portion of every sale to support retired service animals across the UK.
The brothers recently partnered with the National Foundation for Retired Service Animals (NFRSA), a charity that provides vital support for police, fire, military and NHS service dogs once their working careers are over.
“These dogs have served our country with loyalty and bravery, but when they retire, they are no longer supported by the services they once served,” says Patrick. “We wanted to do something meaningful to help.”
To launch the partnership, Rude Dog Food filmed a feature at Cirencester House with the NFRSA’s founder, The Countess Bathurst, Lady B. “Our motto at the NFRSA is “Protecting Our Protectors” and we quite simply couldn’t do this without the regular financial donations provided by businesses like Rude, who share our passion for doing right by these incredible animals. With the number of requests for our support increasing all the time, every donation makes a real, tangible difference,” said Lady B.
“It’s not just about business,” says Christopher. “It’s about doing the right thing. If we can feed dogs better and support retired service dogs while we’re at it, then we should!”
The Future of Feeding
With demand growing fast, the brothers show no signs of slowing down. Their meals are now available online via subscription or one-time purchases. All food is shipped to your door frozen on a next-day delivery and tailored to your dog’s weight and needs.
But despite their growth, they insist the core of the business won’t change.
“We’re still obsessed with quality,” says Patrick. “We still read every bit of customer feedback. And we still think about every dog we feed like it’s our own.”
In an industry often dominated by giant corporations, Rude Dog Food’s story is a refreshing reminder of what can happen when two dog lovers decide to follow their passion, stand by their values, and do things differently.
