Mikel Arteta may finally get his Arsenal transfer wish more than a year later.

Edu may finally move to grant Mikel Arteta’s transfer wish of signing a certain winger, according to a report.

Arsenal have been busy in the transfer window this summer, spending around £200million to sign Declan Rice, Kai Havertz and Jurrien Timber alone. Having come so close to winning the Premier League title last season, Arteta is being backed significantly in a bid to get the club across the line.

Manchester City were near unstoppably in the back-end of last season, and with Pep Guardiola’s men strengthening again, it was obvious Arsenal needed to be bold in the summer window if they want to bridge the gap.

They may not be done yet, either, with more incomings still possible, although they do now depend on possible outgoings, with the likes of Thomas Partey and Kieran Tierney being linked with a move away.

If players do leave, Arsenal could still put the finishing touches on their summer business by adding another winger to their already dangerous-looking attack. According to Sky Sports’ Dharmesh Sheth, Arsenal may circle back for Barcelona star Raphinha.

“I’ve just been told to keep an eye on the attacking side of the pitch, particularly on the right side as well,” he said on Sky Sports News on Tuesday.

“Remember a couple of summers ago they tried to sign Raphinha (last summer) - he ended up going to Barcelona. They’re also interested in Moussa Diaby from Bayer Leverkusen. I know Aston Villa have had a bid rejected for him as well, so that may be an area just to keep an eye on.

“It would require now a few departures and money to be recouped because after Havertz, Rice and Timber they’ve gone through £200million in this transfer window.”

Arsenal’s attempts to sign Raphinha before his move were well-documented, with Chelsea also making a move for the Brazilian. In the end, the winger decided to join Barcelona, where he went on to play a key role in their La Liga title win last season, especially after Ousmane Dembélé picked up an injury.

With Dembélé back and competition growing more intense, Raphinha could be used to raise money for other transfers this summer, and Arteta may finally get his wish, as long as Edu also approves.
