Ange Postecoglou likely to hand £27.2m star first start of the year against Liverpool

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou will ring the changes against Liverpool at Anfield tomorrow.

Argentine midfielder Giovani Lo Celso could be handed his first league start of the year when Tottenham travel to Anfield tomorrow afternoon. The Lilywhites were completely beaten by Chelsea on Thursday night, their third straight defeat and are in desperate need of a win to revive their campaign.

LondonWorld sources say Postecoglou is looking to make changes in midfield, and Uruguayan Rodrigo Bentancur is set to replace Senegalese Pape Sarr at the heart of the team. Yves Bissouma who has suffered a dip in form in the second half of the campaign is likely to keep his spot while Lo Celso who was signed for £27.2million from Real Betis in 2020 comes in to play the number 10 role that was taken by Dejan Kulusevski at Stamford Bridge. That means James Maddison could still be on the bench.

Swedish forward Kulusevski is however still set to stay in the team, replacing the young but promising Brennan Johnson who also endured a torrid evening against Chelsea.

That leaves two spots, one for captain Son Heung-min who is the club’s top scorer this season and Richarlison who has struggled with a knee injury in the last few weeks.

Both strikers have struggled for goals recently and Son in particular will be desperate to add to his 16 league tally.

The Tottenham captain will move outright third on the club’s highest appearance list, only Hugo Lloris on 361 and Harry Kane,317 have made more appearances than the South Korean.

The last few months though have been a massive wake-up call for manager Postecoglou, who arrived at the club having won the treble in Scotland and implemented an attacking brand of football.

He will hope his club captain can find his sensational appetite and lead his team to a memory victory against Jurgen Klopp’s side.
