Drop in visits to A&E at Moorfields Eye Hospital last month

Fewer patients visited A&E at Moorfields Eye Hospital last month – but attendances were higher than over the same period last year, figures reveal.

NHS England figures show 4,559 patients visited speciality departments at Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in December.

That was a drop of 16% on the 5,459 visits recorded during November, but 7% more than the 4,261 patients seen in December 2021.

The figures show attendances were above the levels seen two years ago – in December 2020, there were 3,369 visits to speciality departments run by Moorfields Eye Hospital.

Across England, A&E departments received 2.3 million visits last month.

That was an increase of 5% compared to November, and 22% more than the 1.9 million seen during December 2021.
