However, last year Kay made a rare public appearance to host a Dance For Life danceathon to raise money for Cancer research.

The event happened at London’s Alexandra Palace 30 April 2021, and the performance showed that time away only made the comedian better with fans raving about the performance.

After stepping away from the limelight Kay made another public appearance earlier this month (May 2022) at the Ivor Novello Awards.

It seems as though Kay is slowly making his way back into the spotlight.

So, when could Peter Kay return to the stage?

Here’s everything we know so far about the new tour rumours.

When did Peter Kay last tour?

It has been 13 years since Peter Kay completed a full UK arena tour.

The 48 year old comedian has been out of the public eye since 2017 when he cancelled a 100-show standup tour which was scheduled to take place over 14 months.

The comedian cancelled his tour due to ‘unforeseen family circumstances’.

Kay never went into detail about what led to the cancellation but apologised to fans and said ‘family must always come first’.

When could he announce a new tour?

Speculation begun when The Sun published a quote from a source saying that comedian was planning a massive arena tour: “He has lined up huge venues across the country including Manchester, London, and Birmingham”

They said: ‘Peter has not performed a live stand-up set on a big stage in well over a decade now but he could not be more ready to get back out there.

The source added that the comedian is hoping to announce the massive comeback in September.

This exciting news comes after close friend, and fellow comedian, Jason Manford told a Dublin radio station he believes Peter will be ‘back to himself soon doing stand-up, so keep your eye out for his tour’.

Where could he perform in London?

Peter Kay’s most recent performance was in London’s Alexandra Palace in 2021. However, throughout his extensive tours he has performed at many other venues across the city.

In 2009, the comedian completed 15 shows at the London O2 Arena and holds the record for most shows performed by a comedian at the venue.

With the rumours of a new tour being an arena tour it would be safe to assume that Peter Kay is likely to return to this stage. However, fans will have to wait till the comedian himself confirms.

One thing is for sure is that with thousands of fans anxiously waiting for Kay’s return to the stage it’s safe to say that he would have no problem selling out the O2 for multiple nights.
