Under the stewardship of new DC executives James Gunn and Peter Safran, the multi-billion dollar entertainment company and subsidiary of Warner Bros has decided to slam the door on Patty Jenkins’ proposal for Wonder Woman 3. The news comes just 24 hours after Gal Gadot posted a hopeful tweet about the franchise’s future.

“I’ve been so grateful for the opportunity to play such an incredible, iconic character and more than anything I’m grateful for YOU. The fans. Can’t wait to share her next chapter with you,” Gadot tweeted.

However, the future of the franchise was thrown into question when reports emerged that Gunn, Safran, and Warner Bros. Pictures co-CEOs Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy had told Jenkins that the movie doesn’t fit with the new DC Studios plan.

The Hollywood Reporter reported on Wednesday, when Jenkins recently submitted her treatment (summary), for the Wonder Woman 3 - which was co-written with Geoff Johns -

THR also reported that while money isn’t a factor, the studio could save tens of millions of dollars by not pressing on with the third instalment. According to THR: “Gadot, according to sources, was on track for a $20 million payday for Wonder Woman 3 while Jenkins would have received $12 million. Those figures don’t include any possible backend bonuses.”

Gunn and Safran took over from Walter Hamada as co-CEOs of DC Studios in October. The move was made to reposition DC as a closer competitor to Marvel over the next ten years.
