The Hammers are supposedly competing with Fulham for the Manchester United midfielder.

West Ham are credited with transfer interest in Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay this summer as Julen Lopetegui prepares his squad for a debut season in charge at the London Stadium.

It's not the first time that the Hammers have been linked with the Scotland international with David Moyes known to be a big fan of the player. West Ham had a bid of £30 million rejected by the Red Devils 12 months ago with the club then turning to other targets to bolster the midfield before the 2023/24 campaign.

Moyes may have left the club but, according to The Times, interest in McTominay remains. Any West Ham bid will face competition from London rivals Fulham, with Marco Silva also looking for reinforcements in the middle of the park having sold Joao Palhinha to Bayern Munich for a fee of around £47 million.

The Cottagers have reportedly already sent a bid to Manchester United for the player, which was swotted away. That fee was believed to be lower than the £30 million offered by the Hammers last year.

Former West Ham manager David Moyes has already opened up about the club's links with McTominay this summer. Writing for BBC Sport ahead of working as a pundit at Euro 2024, the 61-year-old went into detail about the transfer story.

He wrote: "Lots of managers have hard luck stories about players that get away and McTominay is one of those for me because I tried to sign him for West Ham last summer.

"It was always going to be hard to replace Declan Rice with any one player when he joined Arsenal, and we were not planning to do that - we wanted to bring in a couple of midfielders instead.

"We bought two really good players in James Ward-Prowse and Edson Alvarez, so that was the cover, but Scott was certainly one of the players we had a big interest in as well. He is a good all-round midfielder, but to me his best attributes are arriving in the area, or the edges of it, at the right time to score or make some chances.

"McTominay was a player who I felt I needed at the time, but we didn’t quite get it over the line and he went on to score a lot of big goals for Manchester United last season instead."

Whether Lopetegui holds McTominay in the same high regard remains to be seen but reports certainly suggest that the club are in talks over a possible transfer.

Manchester United full-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka is also a transfer target for the London outfit. The 26-year-old would add competition for Vladimir Coufal, who has just one year left on his current deal - a £15 million fee has been touted for any Wan-Bissaka transfer.
