West Ham close in on £21m next summer signing with ex-La Liga star poised to join

The Ligue 1 star has reportedly already accepted the move to the London Stadium

West Ham look to be close to signing Paris Saint-Germain man Carlos Soler with the Spanish star having accepted a move to the London Stadium.

It had already been reported in the French press that West Ham had been closing in on a deal for the 27-year-old midfielder but, according to the latest reports from L’Equipe, another significant step has been taken as the negotiations between the Irons and Paris Saint-Germain conclude.

A deal is now said to be in place with the coming hours proving ‘crucial’ to the former Valencia star’s arrival in London. Initially it had been supposed that the Hammers were yet to convince Soler but L’Equipe’s latest news indicates that this is not the case, with the Spaniard having already accepted the idea of joining the Premier League side and working under new head coach and fellow Spaniard Julen Lopetegui.

Reports elsewhere in France, via SportWitness, have also backed L’Equipe’s latest indications by stating that PSG and the Hammers have ‘come together’ in the last few hours, adding that the deal could be worth up to €25 million (£21m) with bonuses included.

With such details seemingly finalised, Soler could become the ninth player the Irons have brought in this summer after welcoming goalkeeper Wes Foderingham; defensive stars Max Kilman and Aaron Wan-Bissaka; midfielders Mohamadou Kante and Guido Rodriguez as well as wingers Luis Guilherme, Crysencio Summerville and centre-forward Niclas Fullkrug.

Lopetegui has undergone a huge squad development after the side conceded 74 Premier League goals last campaign. However, it is evident that more work is set to take place following the side’s 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa last weekend.

27-year-old Soler has spent the majority of his career at Valencia, making over 180 La Liga appearances for the side before moving to PSG in 2022. He has gone on to make 50 Ligue 1 appearances, scoring five goals, but was reduced to a substitute role in the 2023/24 season under head coach Luis Enrique.

Soler also has 14 international appearances to his name, scoring four goals, and featured in Enrique’s Spain squad that reached the last 16 of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
