Tottenham and Crystal Palace target 'turns down' West Ham transfer

Tottenham Hotspur and Crystal Palace transfer target Angel Gomes is believed to have rejected a move to West Ham despite last ditch attempts from manager Graham Potter.
The England international and Lille midfielder is out of contract in France this summer and hotly tipped to make a return to the UK. Gomes is a product of the Manchester United youth academy but never broke through at Old Trafford before moving to Lille in 2020.

There is still hope of bringing David to the London Stadium, but it appears the ship may have sailed for Gomes.
Graham Potter makes personal call to West Ham target
Claret and Hugh reports that Potter has tried to convince Gomes to consider West Ham in a personal phone call, but that tactic has not worked and he has ‘turned down’ the club. West Ham first made contact with Gomes’ representatives in January and submitted a contract offer to the player.
Spurs are known to be suitors of the player and Claret and Hugh names Crystal Palace as another Premier League side linked with interest. Fulham had also been named as a club watching Gomes with Marco Silva a big fan of the player and a club swoop for the star could convince the Portuguese coach to stay on the banks of the Thames amid links to Tottenham Hotspur.
Speaking about Gomes in September, following his call-up to the England squad, caretaker Three Lions boss Lee Carsley said: “Angel is someone who does it week-in, week-out for a team out in France. He is probably different to what we’ve seen in the past in terms of the central midfielder that is a little bit more physical, more robust.

Angel Gomes ‘aware’ of transfer interest amid Spurs and Fulham links
Addressing his future, as quoted by transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Gomes said: "I'm aware of clubs enquiring about my situation, but I'm now completely focused on Lille. I want to finish the season in the best way possible, and then we will see what happens. I'm focused on the present and not on negotiations."
Gomes has made 20 appearances across all competitions for Lille this season, having suffered with a brief calf injury halfway through the season. In total, he has racked up 134 first team appearances for the French side.
The midfielder did make 10 first team appearances for Manchester United but was never a regular option in the north west. The midfield is thought to be a key area of investment for West Ham this summer with Carlos Solder and Guido Rodriguez set to depart at the end of their loan deals and not return.
