Graham Potter has contacts at Brighton and Chelsea and could do with flexing them this month with the transfer window open.

A new era is underway at West Ham under the stewardship of Graham Potter after the tumultuous six-month reign of Julen Lopetegui came to an end last week.

The former Wolves boss never managed to find a consistency that pointed to any sort of stability post David Moyes with the London club finally decided to call time on his tenure following a 5-0 defeat to Liverpool and 4-1 loss to Manchester City.

Potter arrives at the London Stadium with the January transfer window open. LondonWorld looks at five players the new West Ham manager could snap up from his time at Brighton and Chelsea.

Evan Ferguson

Perhaps the most obvious way for Potter to use flex his Brighton contracts would be to secure a loan move for Ferguson this season. West Ham were linked with the rising star even before the former Seagulls boss was appointed, with the 20-year-old struggling for minutes under Fabian Hurzeler this season.

There's a lot of hype around the Irishman, who already has 13 Premier League goals to his name and there's no doubt that the Hammers need a talisman to lead the line - or at least take the burden of Niclas Fullkrug. A loan move for Ferguson seems feasible but should come with some caution. The forward only has one top flight goal this season and has been nursing an ankle injury lately.

Robert Sanchez

This won't be a transfer that happens this January, but there could be a world where West Ham move for Robert Sanchez. The number one spot at the London Stadium is far from settled, with Alphonse Areola having lost that starting berth to Lukasz Fabianski under Lopetegui.

Fabianski is well liked and remains a solid option, but at 39 years old, is coming towards the end of his career - what's more, the shot-stopper is out of contract this summer. Sanchez has come under criticism at Stamford Bridge this season and, while he retains Enzo Maresca's faith, there's a general sense that Filip Jorgensen will take that number one spot sooner rather than later.

Trevoh Chalobah

West Ham forked out £40 million for Max Kilman last summer and also added Jean-Clair Todibo to the squad on loan. However, those two centre-back additions have not added much defensive stability to a side that remains one of the most porous in the league.

That makes a reliable centre-back somewhat of a priority. Chalobah is on loan at Crystal Palace this season and enjoying an impressive spell, with three goals to his name in the league. He won't be on the move this month but will return to Stamford Bridge this summer with question marks over his future.

The Daily Mail reports that Chelsea may use the star as bait to bring Marc Guehi the other way but that the Eagles may not have the finances to afford his wages. If that does stall, West Ham could swoop in.

David Datro Fofana

The Chelsea man is currently on loan at Turkish club Göztepe, having been heavily linked with a move to Everton last summer. Those rumours came after the 22-year-old scored four goals in 15 Premier League appearances for Burnley over the back half of last term.

There's no doubting the forward's capabilities in the top flight, having turned heads at a Burnley side struggling for form. What's more, he'll return to Chelsea and still be surplus to requirements for Maresca. Fofana made his debut with the Blues under Potter and the new West Ham boss could well benefit from bringing him to the London Stadium.

Tariq Lamptey

The full-back position remains an area to improve for West Ham, even with Aaron Wan-Bissaka arriving from Manchester United for £15 million. The former Red Devils man has impressed but Vladimir Coufal's contract is coming to end and Emerson could do with cover at right-back.

Lampetey is a right-back but his arrival would certainly boost options in the full-back position, with Wan-Bissaka capable of playing either side. The 24-year-old is not nailed in the Seagulls' starting XI under Hurzeler and, given his talent, deserves more playing time than he's getting. There's never an injury problem far away but, if managed well, he would be an upgrade to the West Ham squad.
