‘Looked really good’: Gianluca Scamacca gets West Ham fans excited despite defeat to Manchester City
West Ham new signing Gianluca Scamacca gives reason for hope despite opening day defeat.
Erling Haaland silenced his critics from the Liverpool game last weekend with a dominant performance and two goals on his Premier League debut to give Pep Guardiola’s side all three points on the day.
When Pep Guardiola’s side play with the swagger and intensity they displayed not many teams in the world can stand in their way, so David Moyes will look for the positives and there certainly were a few.
Pablo Fornals was full of running, but it was the movement and power of new striker Gianluca Scamacca that got the fans talking after the game.
The Italian striker looked bright and impressive, he even forced Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson into a decent save late on in the game.
A fan with the Twitter handle @Killerheels_ said: “He looked really good after he came on. great control with his headers and nice touches. Better start next week.”
Another with the handle @rayyanhammani added: “Word though, Gianluca Scamacca is gonna be a real problem in the PL.”
While @sellbenrahmaalso said: “I love Scamacca.”
David Moyes looking for a response
The Hammers will now have to respond when they take on newly promoted Nottingham Forest next weekend.
Moyes knows how ruthless the Premier League can be and he will not like his team to get used to the feeling of losing as they look to replicate the fine form of last season’s Europa League campaign.
The good news is that, the arrival of Gianluca Scamacca will reduce the goal-scoring burden on Michail Antonio, who was the only recognised striker in the team.
