Watford have ‘accepted’ an offer from Rennes from winger Yaser Asprilla, as per The Athletic. The transfer fee is believed to be in the region of £25million, although personal terms have not been agreed as of yet.

He has also been linked with a move to Premier League new boys Leicester City. They are in the hunt for new signings after winning the second tier title.

Asprilla, who is 20-years-old, is highly-rated by the Hornets and has a bright future ahead of him in the game. The Colombia international has been on the books at Vicarage Road since joining them in 2022 from Envigado.

He has since made 86 appearances in all competitions for the Hertfordshire outfit and has scored seven goals. His contract expires in June 2026.

As per Sky Sports, Asprilla’s former Envigado coach Wilberth Perea said: “One of Yaser’s main characteristics is that he has always been a very daring player. He has a lot of personality and a huge capacity to do extraordinary things.

“I was aware that he had played a lot as a ‘false’ winger, cutting in from the right to use his left foot, but when he came up to the U15s, I thought, because of his creativity, he could be better as a No 10, or mediapunta, as we say here, behind the striker.

“That was where he felt he could be the best version of himself, so we made the decision to go with the desire of the player, to help him demonstrate his talent and his creativity to the absolute best of his abilities.”

Left-back update

Watford are said to be interested in AC Milan left-back Fode Ballo-Toure, according to Gianluca Di Marzio. In this latest update regarding the player, CalcioMercato claim he is on Ipswich Town’s radar.

QPR’s Kenneth Paal is another player believed to be of interest to the Hornets. As per West London Sport, he is yet to pen a new deal with the Hoops with his contract up next year and the R’s are ‘looking’ to sell him in this window.

Cleverley on what positions need strengthening

Cleverley has suggested he wants to bolster his central defence and midfield positions, as well as his options up top. He has said, as per the Watford Observer: “Obviously we’re a bit stretched at centre-back at the minute, we’re a little bit stretched in central midfield and everyone would like to add quality at the top end of the pitch. I think every Championship manager would say the latter. Listen, we’ll have to see what happens but my job is to work with the quality that we have got.”
