Tottenham manager Antonio Conte makes startling admission about Spurs’ summer transfer business

Tottenham manager Antonio Conte has made a surprising admission about Spurs’ transfer business ahead of the Chelsea clash.

The club’s hierarchy have been praised for their signings, bringing Ivan Perisic, Richarlison, Clement Lenglet to name a few of the big names that arrived in N17.

Last year, it looked like the fiery Italian might walk out of the club, however after receiving assurances he would be backed in the transfer window he has stayed on in north London.

The new signings have raised the competition levels in the team and expectations are skyrocketing at the moment.

However it seems, that despite the Tottenham owners sanctioning six new signings, Conte is still not entirely happy with the summer’s business.

Speaking ahead of the Chelsea game, Conte said: “We improved in this way but I know I can’t have everything quickly.

“It would be foolish to ask for a lot of players and spend a lot of money.”

However the Italian did appear largely satisfied with how the club was operating.

“We’re doing the right things with common sense, not to spend the money on many players,” he continued.

“Also this is not the politics of the club, I understand this.

“We have to go in the right way, doing the right things.”

Tottenham will look for only their second league win at Stamford Bridge since 1992 when they travel to take on Chelsea on Sunday.

The Lillywhites lost both league and cup games in south-west London last season, with the then new manager Conte admitting there was a huge gap in quality between his side and Thomas Tuchel’s team.

However eight months is a long time in football.

Since then, Chelsea have been put up for sale and now they have new owners while Spurs have recovered from those defeats to qualify for Champions League football.

As Spurs have built form and depth, Chelsea have had to navigate the issues of sanctions and the sale, and in the process lost their best defender Antronio Rudiger to Real Madrid.

Both teams though started the season on a winning note with Spurs recovering from a goal down to beat Southampton convincingly, while Chelsea took care of business with a 1-0 win at Goodison Park against Everton.

Now the test will be which team is able to grab the bragging rights and firm up their start to the campaign.
