Tottenham must make big call and help Ange Postecoglou on his way to martyrdom - opinion
Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou is expected to leave his post at the end of the season following an underwhelming Premier League campaign, with the small hope that a triumph in the Europa League could salvage the position.
Hope of seeing his contract through in North London may stop with Postecoglou as the feeling among fans continues to grow and become one of frustration. Spurs were beaten 2-1 by Nottingham Forest in front of a home crowd on Monday night with the Australian head coach choosing to defend his side’s performance after full time.

Spurs face Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League semi final next week with the chance of booking a place in the final and winning the whole tournament. For Trembath, if Postecoglou’s departure is announced before that date, the manager can leave in some state of martyrdom with his gung-ho style of leadership costing him is job, but ultimately securing a piece of historic silverware.
Why Tottenham Hotspur should announce Ange Postecoglou departure now
Speaking on the latest Spurs podcast, Trembath said: “I think the writing’s on the wall, it’s fair to say, regardless of whether we get over the line of the Europa League and end up winning the final. Ange Postecoglou’s days at Spurs are certainly numbered.
“The majority of fans, certainly the ones I speak to, are in the circles of that. It’s time, 18 league defeats and eight at home, is the worst in a 38 game season. I think there’s merit in announcing his departure imminently. Keep him on until the end of the season but I think that gives everybody a bit of clarity in terms of the future and knowing we’re going to be looking at another change.

“It was the same against Nottingham Forest on Monday, a poor performance. Ange came out and said it was a good performance. That’s been a little bit divisive among the fanbase, he says a lot of the same things every week, isn’t fixing the problems and the players aren’t concentrating. It looks like the players have lost belief outside of the Europa League.
“It’s just not good enough for a club of Tottenham’s size and standing. We certainly, in my eyes, need to make a chance and should probably make it sooner rather than later.”
Ange Postecoglou on Spurs future
Postecoglou has shared his frustration at the speculation regarding his situation at Tottenham Hotspur and criticised the media for its escalation of the situation. When asked about his future ahead of facing Eintracht Frankfurt earlier this month, the Spurs boss said: “No - no idea. We have a game tomorrow night, but it's not something I need to think about. I've never thought about those things in terms of what is important.

Anything other than that, particularly in terms of me, I don't really have much thought process that thinks about my career or what I'm doing in that way."
