Tottenham player ratings as Son and Sessegnon impress but Kane endures a quiet evening at Anfield

Tottenham produced a disciplined performance to hold Liverpool to a 1-1 draw at Anfield with both teams pushing for a win but eventually having to split the points.

In-form Son Heung-min scored the opener for Spurs after some brilliant play from Harry Kane and wing-back Sessegnon who served it on the plate for the South Korean forward.

Before that Pierre-Emile Højbjerg had hit the post for Spurs and Liverpool were also unfortunate to see a Van Dijk effort come off the post.

With time running out and the pressure valve turning up, January signing Luis Diaz benefited from a Rodrigo Bentancur deflection to level things for his side with Hugo Lloris wrong footed.

The equaliser brought the best out of Liverpool but Tottenham held on defensively while maintaining a threat when attacking to leave Merseyside with a point that keeps their top four hopes alive.

For Liverpool the point picked takes them top of the Premier League table, same points as Manchester City who will play Newcastle United on Sunday evening knowing that a win will give them three points and a big step towards  the Premier League title.

Tottenham manager Antonio Conte had said his side needed a perfect game to get something from Anfield and his plan almost worked with the Lillywhites stifling the Reds and will feel unfortunate not to take all three points after a late Kane chance.
