Tottenham are being linked with a reported Chelsea target as they look to strengthen their attack.

Tottenham are being linked with a reported Chelsea target as they gear up for a Champions League campaign. Spurs have lots of shopping to do, with Thomas Frank needing to improve the standard within his new squad after the same squad endured a disastrous Premier League campaign under Ange Postecoglou last term.

Daniel Levy and the Tottenham chiefs will surely understand the need to strengthen this summer, and Frank will have almost certainly demanded a certain level of recruitment before taking the job.

One of the positions Tottenham need to strengthen is out wide. Mathys Tel may have stuck around, but the Timo Werner loan experiment didn’t pan out, and there is little doubting that more competition is needed on the flanks. Spurs could make a statement signing out wide, and according to some reports, West Ham winger Mohammed Kudus is an option.

Kudus has been heavily linked wit Chelsea this summer, reportedly carrying an asking price of £65million. The winger is said to be the main option for Chelsea if they decide to replace Noni Madueke.

Spurs have been mooted as another possible option, and according to David Ornstein, the North London club could be an attractive option for the West Ham star. He told The Athletic: “They have a reported interest in him. We don’t know of it being more than him being one of the options they’re considering. We’ve reported that they enquired about Antoine Semenyo at Bournemouth having previously liked Bryan Mbeumo and Semenyo has signed a new contract.

“So yeah, Kudus is in the orbit of clubs like Tottenham. West Ham might need to sell a player and he’s their most obvious asset. I think Tottenham would carry appeal to someone like him, Champions League football and staying in London, but there will be other options as well, and I don’t think this one is close to a conclusion as of yet.”

Kudus’ struggles last season

Kudus made a big impression in his first season at West Ham, but he struggled to produce in a Hammers side that struggled as a whole last term. Addressign the winger’s form last season, Graham Potter admitted: “Yea (Kudus has struggled), I think he’s probably had a season that – from his perspective – would be a little bit disappointing.

“And it’s for different reasons, not because his lack of effort or anything like that – just sometimes these things happen. Speaking personally he’s been great with us in terms of how he’s worked every day, fantastic. He’s built his fitness up, built his condition up to the point where he can sustain things a lot better now.

“Football can go like that sometimes. You can have a little spell where it doesn’t quite happen for you in front of goal or that final pass just doesn’t quite get there. But it doesn’t take much to turn that around because how he contributed against Arsenal for example in our win there, even though he didn’t score or assist, he was a top, top player in that game and massively helped us. So the numbers do say something – but there’s also other aspects of his performance that have been really, really good.”
