Tottenham transfer news: Spurs in ‘advanced talks’ for £20m midfielder deal, West Ham ‘close in’ on £30m defender swoop
Tottenham are favourites to sign Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn ahead of Arsenal and Manchester United this summer, according to bookmakers.
The Scot has established himself as an integral member of Villa’s squad since arriving from Hibernian in 2018, and featured 35 times in the Premier League this season, scoring three goals and assisting four more.
McGinn’s consistent performances have frequently led to speculation surrounding his future at Villa Park in recent months, with a number of Premier League sides credited with an interest.
Whether Villa will feel under any obligation to sell such an influential talent in the coming weeks remains to be seen, however, especially given that the 27-year-old’s current contract doesn’t expire until 2025.
Regardless, at the time of writing, Tottenham are the bookies’ favourites to lure McGinn away from the Midlands this summer at a price of 5/1.
Those odds put them ahead of Manchester United and north London rivals Arsenal, who are both priced at 7/1.
Behind them, Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund come in at 10/1, with Leicester City rounding out the chasing pack at 12/1.
Away from the market, West Ham are also said to be considering a move for the midfielder, with the Daily Mail reporting that his is one of several names that David Moyes and his board are “juggling” as potential recruitment options heading into the upcoming window.
Whether a deal is doable is unclear, however, with the Mail acknowledging that any agreement involving McGinn could be “difficult” to reach.
