Tottenham Hotspur have had some excellent transfer windows in recent seasons and supporters of the North London club will be hoping for another in January 2023.

Antonio Conte and the backroom staff at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium may well look to add even more strength and depth to the side to sustain their form and keep touch with the top sides in the Premier League table. However, they may struggle to get their hands on one of the brightest emerging talents in European football after his current club reportedly expressed their unwillingness to sell. It’s a double blow for Spurs as they were reportedly offered the chance to sign him two years ago for significantly less money than what the current asking price is likely to be.

Napoli winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is one of the brightest young prospects on the continent and has earned rave reviews for his performances in Serie A and the UEFA Champions League. According to journalist and transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, the 21-year old is admired by many of Europe’s top clubs but the Italian side ‘have no plans’ to sell the Georgian. He also reports that Spurs were offered the chance to sign Kvaratskhelia for €30 million in 2020 from Russian side Rubin Kazan.

Napoli were able to secure the player for a fee even lower than that last summer and now have a real financial asset on their hands if they did change their stance on selling. In his column for CaughtOffside, Romano wrote: “Napoli have no plans to sell Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. They’re really happy with him at this moment after an excellent start to the season. All the top European clubs are following him at the moment but there are no talks or advanced discussions. Tottenham wanted to sign Kvaratskhelia back in 2020 but the price tag was €30m before the war in Ukraine.”

Although the price tag that Spurs were quoted in 2020 seems a bargain in hindsight it would have represented a serious investment in a teenage player and is more than double what Napoli were able to land the player for this summer.
