Roma ‘unhappy’ with Tottenham as injury concerns dictate new transfer bid
Spurs have competition from two Serie A clubs as they look to add to their squad.
Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keen on a move for Roma star Nicolo Zaniolo - but have concerns over injuries suffered by the Italian midfielder.
90Min have reported Antonio Conte has an interest in securing a deal for the highly-rated 23-year-old and has lodged a season-long loan bid with the Serie A club.
However, Roma are described as ‘unhappy’ with the offer, which was said to contain an obligation to make the move permanent in exchange for a fee of £21m with a further £8.4m in add-ons.
Roma are said to be looking for a fee of around £42m but are ‘open’ to allowing Zaniolo to depart on an initial loan deal.
That would suit Spurs, who have questions over a fitness record consisting of recent anterior cruciate ligament injuries in both of his knees.
Roma new-boy Paulo Dybala addressed Zaniolo’s future after he agreed to join Jose Mourinho’s side last month.
He told TuttoMercato: “We all know him (Zaniolo), his characteristics and what he can give. I had the opportunity to talk a little with him, the choice it’s his.
“We all want to have the best players with us, we know what he can give us, but we can’t interfere with his future. I think he has to take care of it.”
Juventus and AC Milan were said to be interested in Zaniolo - although the latter’s interest has waned after they completed a move for Belgian star Charles De Ketelaere.
