Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City face Tottenham this weekend after four consecutive losses.

Tottenham make the trip to the Etihad Stadium this weekend as they look to continue Manchester City’s poor streak of results. Pep Guardiola’s side have lost four consecutive games for the first time in the Spaniard’s career.

An inconsistent Spurs will look to add a second win of the season against City after their 2-1 victory in the Carabao Cup at the end of October. They currently sit 10th in the Premier League table and seven points behind Guardiola’s side.

City have struggled against Tottenham in recent seasons, and pundits have agreed that they could find the fixture very tricky again this weekend. Speaking on the Optus Sport Preview Podcast, French football journalist Julien Laurens said: “Guardiola doesn’t like playing them because you just never know what to expect. For City, it’s a nightmare because when they are in a positive chaotic mood then there are players everywhere, runners everywhere, movement and technical ability.

“All of that, it’s hard to defend against because they can hurt you in so many ways so it’s difficult. I think Guardiola hates playing a team that has as much structure and ‘unstructure’ at times this season and that’s Spurs for you. You can definitely see Spurs going to City and winning on Saturday afternoon.”

Former Fulham and Chelsea goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer was in full agreement after what he has seen out of Man City in their last few matches. He said: “I just feel with City, it’s like a wounded animal right now and you’re backing them into a corner and I can see them [Spurs] coming out and just being ruthless.”

Tottenham Hotspur’s inconsistent form

Ange Postecoglou has several games this season where he can take a lot of positives from his Spurs side as they have, at times, played some excellent football.

Their last three wins have helped to make them the highest-scoring team in the Premier League after excellent victories against Manchester United (3-0), West Ham United (4-1) and the most impressive being their last win against Aston Villa. They came back from 1-0 down to win 4-1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

However, for all that has been good under Postecoglou, their last game before the international break proved to be a disappointment as they lost 2-1 to relegation-fighting Ipswich Town at home handing the Tractor Boys their first win since returning to the Premier League.

Being 10th in the league and losing three of their last six games, Spurs will be desperate that their good run against Manchester City can continue and that they can cause a ‘nightmare’ for Pep Guardiola who recently signed a new two-year contract at the Etihad.
