Tottenham finally return to action after Christmas following more than a month on the sidelines.

Antonio Conte’s men managed to hold on to their top four spot ahead of the World Cup taking hold, heading into the break with a three-point lead having played a game more than nearest rival Manchester United. Spurs have struggled for consistency so far this season, and they will need to up their game if they are to make up ground on the top two, in particular.

What has Conte said?

“For Richy (Richarlison), tomorrow he’s going to have an MRI (scan) to know very well the importance of the injury. After tomorrow we will see very well the time he needs to recover.”

Speaking about players who have returned from the World Cup, Conte added: “You know very well after an important tournament like this, the World Cup, it’s normal that the players come back in a different mood, in a different way. Hugo lost the final and, instead, Cuti won the final. For Harry, he missed a penalty, but I think he played a really good World Cup.

“For sure, they have to try and put to one side this experience. Every experience is very important in your life, but, at the same time, you have to know now that we have to start to think again about Tottenham and try to do our best. We are talking about important players for us, these are players who can make a difference.”

What Frank has said

Speaking after one of Brentford’s friendlies recently, Bees boss Thomas Frank said: “We always want to win, we don’t like to lose, we prefer to win all our games. Even in the Premier League, the most important thing is three points, but if the performance behind it, consistently, isn’t good enough, then, over time, it will be open to everyone that you’re not that good.

“But if you can consistently perform well, then there are no problems.”
